The Family Housing Fund launched its Public Education and Research Initiative in 1996 to raise public awareness of the Twin Cities' affordable housing crisis and to improve the delivery of affordable housing in the Twin Cities region. Our public education and research activities are integral components of our work.
The initiative has three main objectives:- Encourage the production and preservation of decent, safe, affordable housing in the metro area.
- Influence policies and programs to create a more hospitable environment for affordable housing development and for those who live in them.
- Increase the amount of public and private funds available for affordable housing.
The Fund's Public Education Initiative provides information to the public and community leaders about Twin Cities' affordable housing issues. The Public Education Initiative is targeted toward people who have influence over affordable housing development and policy, including business leaders, state legislators, local elected officials, private funders, and other community leaders.
The Fund also supports research on housing policy and on ways to improve the delivery of affordable housing. As part of the Public Education Initiative, the Fund has produced several fact sheets, reports, an affordable housing art exhibit, and other materials.
