Artist Statement Creatively
collaborating with children is always rewarding and
just plain fun. I worked with children from New Village,
an affordable housing development in south Minneapolis.
As we explored together the concept of home, the kids
emphasized the basic need for a physical structure that
provides security and consistency. Here's where a child
builds a sense of self and establishes a foundation
from which to leap confidently into the world. The images
we created reflect the dreams and realities of these
kids-their origins, family and friends, even the earth
itself, which is, after all, everyone's home. Thank
you, Family Housing Fund and Ta-coumba Aiken, for this
opportunity to artistically address affordable housing
concerns. Congratulations on 20 years of success. And
peace.
